Away Day Guide to Swindon Town.

Swindon Town – Sat 12th April 2025, 12.30 KO

The Ground:               The County Ground

Capacity:                      15,728

Away capacity:  1,200 typically, and we have this number again. NOTE: TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT. Away fans are in the Arkells Stand towards the end of the pitch and tend to be in line with the Penalty Area.

Address:                        County Road, Swindon, SN1 2ED

Distance:                      195 miles from BD8 (4-hour drive )

Parking:

From previous visits, I have been able to find nearby street parking, with around a 10-minute walk to the stadium. Of course, we may have to navigate the quite ridiculous Magic Roundabout, which, if you haven’t tried, is a sight to behold.

The last visit, I paid for parking at a nearby School ( Holy Cross Catholic School Queen Drive SN3 1AR) , which was a few pounds ( £6 ? ).

Trains:

I’ve always driven to Swindon, so I’ve never been by train, but the ground is around a 10-15-minute walk from the train station.

Nearby Pubs:

For away fans, listed as:

The Merlin – Drove Road, SN1 3AF ( 10 min walk )

The Glue Pot – 5 Emlyn Square SN1 5BP ( 23 min walk )

The Castle Inn – 28 Prospect Place, SN1 3LQ ( 23 min walk )

I’ve not tried any of these, so I can’t comment!

Food and Drink:

From what I remember at Swindon, it tends to be quite a small concourse, so it can get very crowded quickly. It is an old ground now, and this is one of the tell-tale signs. But, by all accounts, a good range of food is available. There are also some nearby food stalls around the ground, selling a range of meals/snacks.

Summary:

It’s one of those grounds that when you drive into a town/city, you can ‘ aim for the floodlights’. You should be able to spot it from a distance. It is quite a traditional four-sided ground, and that elevates it, in my opinion, over some of the modern grounds that all feel/look the same.
