Modernisation of Brand – Our view

It has long been said that people don’t like change.

This morning’s news posted by the club was always going to be controversial, after all, we have had the same club emblem for many many years. The arrival of a PROPOSED new crest has met, in some cases, scathing criticism. We have highlighted proposed because this is the terminology that the club has used in their comms to the fanbase. Our understanding is that this proposal can be cancelled or negotiated and we hope that is what the club is committed to doing.

However, this scenario has raised some questions.

  • What was the sample size during the initial consultation?
  • What was the sample size that The Supporters Board used during their consultation and what was the feedback from that sample?
  • What were the additional designs completed?
  • Was modernisation of the existing club logo considered, and if so, what were the reasons for not going ahead and completing this?
  • Could more effort have been made to communicate with the wider fanbase using a question such as, “Do you want to see a change of the club crest?”

At the time of writing, responses from a variety of Bradford City fans who have responded to club social posts have been fairly negative to the proposal. Bradford City has announced that a survey will open at 5 pm today (Wednesday 5th October 2022) and it will be interesting to see the results of this and how many fans actually respond.

From our view, we have no problem with modernising aspects of Bradford City Football Club. However, we believe that the process has to remain democratic, giving ALL fans an opportunity to respond. We will take our instructions from our members in terms of a response to the club.
